Golf NT Pennants

Formerly known as the Division 2 Pennants, the Golf NT Pennants is now bigger and better.

RAAF Darwin proved that last years victory in the Golf NT men’s pennants was no fluke as they backed up to once again take home the silverware at the Golf NT Pennants final at the RAAF course.

RAAF faced up to Darwin 1, better known as the Pink Pigs and cooked their bacon on the day.  With the weather looking ominous the start of play was delayed and once on the course RAAF hit the ground running with the majority of their 6 man team in front in their individual matches at the half way point.

RAAF went on to put the foot on the accelerator around the back nine to come away victors 4-1 at the end of the day to leave the Pink Pigs as the bridesmaids of the pennants competition for the second year running.

Star performers for the RAAF in the final were Chris Brogan, Nick Etherton, Stuart McPherson and Mouse Saynor who all came away with convincing victories in their individual matches in the final.

Sports Minister's Cup

This event took an exciting new direction in 2009. Held from the 18th-20th September in Alice Springs, the event this year was between two teams - "City" verses "Country" in a similar format to the Chief Minister's Cup contested by the men ie. Fourball, Foursomes and Singles.

The City team comprised women golfers from Darwin, Palmerston and RAAF clubs and the Country team was selected from women in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Gove, Alyangula, Jabiru, Katherine and Humpty Doo.

All the games were played under matchplay rules. Friday and Saturday’s format was fourball in the morning and foursomes in the afternoon and after these two days the points stood at “City” – 11 matches and “Country” – 5 matches. On the final day, Sunday, individual players from each team played a singles matchplay competition. The final score was “City” 17 matches and “Country” 9 matches so the cup will be held in Darwin until next year’s event.

Congratulations to the City Team who came out victorious in 2009. No doubt the Country Team will be back next year in full force aiming to win.
