Golf NT Pennants
Formerly known as the Division 2 Pennants, the Golf NT Pennants is now bigger and better.
RAAF Darwin proved that last years victory in the Golf NT men’s pennants was no fluke as they backed up to once again take home the silverware at the Golf NT Pennants final at the RAAF course.
RAAF faced up to Darwin 1, better known as the Pink Pigs and cooked their bacon on the day. With the weather looking ominous the start of play was delayed and once on the course RAAF hit the ground running with the majority of their 6 man team in front in their individual matches at the half way point.
RAAF went on to put the foot on the accelerator around the back nine to come away victors 4-1 at the end of the day to leave the Pink Pigs as the bridesmaids of the pennants competition for the second year running.
Star performers for the RAAF in the final were Chris Brogan, Nick Etherton, Stuart McPherson and Mouse Saynor who all came away with convincing victories in their individual matches in the final.

Country Championships
Evergreen Golfer Stan “Motza” Thompson claims the inaugural Doc Finch Memorial Trophy

The Easter weekend saw golfers from all across the Territory descend upon Tennant Creek for the annual Golf NT OAMPS Country Championships. The perpetual trophy for the overall winner was renamed this year as the Doc Finch Memorial Trophy in memory of Tennant Creek’s golfing stalwart the late Robert “Doc” Finch who passed away in February after battling cancer. Until recently Doc hadn’t missed a Country Championships for 30 years and was a great supporter of country golf across the Territory.
Winner Stan Thompson finished with scores over 3 days of 76, 81 & 78 to finish a comfortable 8 shots clear of Alice Springs’ Steve Hampel. Stan won his first country championship 15 years ago, also in Tennant Creek. In the A Grade nett event Tennant Creek’s Bob McLellan took the honours with a 66, 70 & 74.
In the Ladies event it was an all Alice Springs affair as Helen Neave made it 3 in a row with scores of 88, 95, 85 to defeat stable mate Tanya Kirker by a single shot over the 54 hole championship.
The men’s B Grade was dominated by Tennant Creek junior Kuyan Warner who shot rounds of 84, 84 and 81 to take the B Grade title & also lose 3 shots from his handicap over the weekend while Darwin’s Robert Campbell took home the B Grade nett event.
The men’s C Grade was an all Tennant creek affair as Doug Townsley took home the gross event while David Campbell took out the nett honours.
Good Friday saw the NT Mixed foursomes contested over 18 holes and only a playoff could separate the winners from the runners up and once again the locals came out on top as Stan Thompson teamed up with Jean Harwood to defeat Alice Springs’ Steve Hampel and Helen Neave.
A big thank you to the generous support from the following sponsors who helped to make the event a success; our major naming rights sponsor OAMPS Insurance, ANZ, Westend, Talice Security, United Fuel, Outback Outfitters, Barkly All Trades, Corporate Express, Imparja Television, Outback Caravan Park, Memorial Club, Steve Mueller, Jim Phillips.
